Une banque est plus qu’une entreprise ayant pour objectif d’engranger uniquement des profits, et devrait assumer pleinement son rôle social dans la société mauricienne. Et cela, les employés de Bank One l’ont bien compris. En effet, au lieu de se contenter de financer les organisations non-gouvernementales avec les fonds du CSR (Corporate Social Responsability), les employés de Bank One, avec le support du Management et du Conseil d’Administration, se sont concertés et ont crée Bank One CARE (Community Action for Relief and Empowerment), qui a pour mission de lutter contre la pauvreté et l’exclusion sociale en promouvant le développement durable et intégral de la personne afin que les familles vivant dans les régions les plus pauvres et les plus marginalisées de la société mauricienne soient en mesure de s’épanouir et d’aspirer à de meilleures conditions de vie.
Ayant pour partenaire principal Caritas Maurice, le Bank One Care Programme (BOCP) a cherché à apporter son soutien là où la société mauricienne en le plus besoin. Après plusieurs visites sur le terrain, quelques poches de pauvreté situées à Vacoas ont été identifiées avec l’aide de Caritas. Il est vrai que Vacoas est perçu comme une région huppée mais en réalité, il a été choquant de constater le fossé d’inégalité existant entre ces poches d’exclusion et les quartiers huppés.
Ainsi, le BOCP, à travers son projet de Développement Communautaire de Vacoas, soutient des actions concrètes et adaptées aux besoins des familles vulnérables de Vacoas avec un accent particulier sur les enfants et la formation. Parmi les actions phares de Bank One en 2015, on retrouve notamment le programme d’alimentation et d’accompagnement scolaire visant à encourager les enfants issus de familles pauvres à fréquenter régulièrement les écoles primaires et ainsi améliorer leur capacité d’apprentissage ; le programme de formation et d’accompagnement en Life Skills Management (gestion de compétence) aux adultes pour faciliter leur intégration sociale et professionnelle. En outre de ces activités, Bank One a aussi apporté un soutien financier à la SOS Children Villages de Bambous (…)
Toutefois, l’élément clé dans la mission sociale de Bank One est l’investissement personnel des employés. En effet, le BOCP apporte une dimension humaine au CSR en facilitant le partage et la solidarité entre les employés de la banque et les familles bénéficiaires dans le but de motiver ces dernières à se prendre en charge et à améliorer leurs conditions de vie. Ainsi les employés de Bank One sont encouragés, avec le soutien du comité CSR de la banque, à organiser diverses activités pour les bénéficiaires, telles que des sorties éducatives pour les enfants, des workshops visant à sensibiliser les familles sur la lutte contre le gaspillage, la protection de l’environnement ou encore le recyclage. Dans certains cas, les employés n’hésitent pas à financer l’activité à leur propre frais, comme la distribution de cadeaux de Noël et dans d’autres cas, ils ont pu compter sur la générosité des clients et d’autres partenaires de Bank One. Au fil de l’année écoulée, une vraie synergie s’est dégagée, qui est essentiel dans la lutte contre l’exclusion sociale.
Kamini Vencadasmy, Chairperson du CSR Committee de Bank One est l’initiatrice de ce programme. Elle nous partage : « Les projets financés par Bank One ont certainement contribué à améliorer les conditions de vie de ces familles mais le plus important selon moi, c’est la relation que nous avons créée entre les bénéficiaires et les employés de Bank One. Au-delà de l’aspect financier, l’investissement personnel est primordial dans l’accompagnement des bénéficiaires vers leur autonomie. Après plusieurs projets, nous avons appris à nous connaitre et à gagner leur confiance, ce qui est nécessaire pour notre mission qui s’inscrit dans le long terme ».
