Bank One supports women entrepreneurs

June 25, 2020

Port Louis, 25 June 2020 – Launched in 2019 by Bank One’s CSR unit and Lakaz Lespwar Caritas Solitude, the empowerment programme entitled “Fam deboute lor to lipied” rewarded its first beneficiaries earlier this week. During an award ceremony held at Caritas Solitude, Bank One handed out cheques to five women entrepreneurs to enable them to kick-off their activities.

In September 2019, the five women started a training provided by Caritas Solitude, its partner Junior Achievement Mascareignes (JAM) after a panel composed of the CSR committee of Bank One and the Lakaz Lespwar Caritas Solitude team selected their projects.

“The projects range from setting up a small nursery for kids to selling home grown vegetables and flowers. Throughout their training, our beneficiaries have shown great determination and today we are happy to see that they are ready to fly on their own and to support their families,” says Sanjeeve Jhurry, Sustainability Manager at Bank One.

The bank ensured that the five beneficiaries receive adequate financial support and the necessary coaching: “Lakaz Lespwar Caritas Solitude and Bank One will continue to support them, particularly in this current post COVID-19 period, and the impact of the national lockdown on all sectors of our economy. Our greatest pride as a sponsor is to see these women achieve their dream despite the difficulties they have faced so far,” adds Sanjeeve Jhurry.
In February, Bank One offered school supplies to children from deprived regions in the Pointe-aux-Sables region thanks to the support of the Père Henri Souchon school and the social workers who work in the area.
