Vacancy: Credit Analysis Manager

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this position is to Manage the Credit Analysis Team and structure and review Credit Proposals prepared by Analysts for onward submission to Credit Risk | CRO | Credit Committees. This relieves Front Office from administrative works and can concentrate on Sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the team of analysts and supervise daily operations of the department (allocation of files, proper leave planning, solve conflicts etc...)
  • Conduct regular meetings with Front Office to:
    • provide advice & solutions regarding credit risk-related matters
    • structure credit requests such that risk and rewards are equitable and in the best interest of the Bank
    • discuss and provide update on any changes in processes | templates or any non-compliance.
  • Review credit proposals prepared by Business Analysts to ensure credit proposals:
    • are unambiguous, error-free, complete and contains an in-depth analysis
    • depict all credit risks involved and give possible mitigants for these risks
    • are in alignment with the Bank’s Credit Policy, Central Bank's guidelines and other legislations (any breach to be clearly highlighted)
    • clearly specify Front Office recommendations and views as well as Credit Analysis independent and prudent recommendations
    • are completed and submitted to Credit Risk | CRO | Credit Committee
  • Review credit proposals prepared by Business Analysts to ensure credit proposals
  • Ensure renewals submitted to Credit Analysis are completed on time
  • Prepare credit proposals as and when required
  • Ensure financials of Institutional IBD clients are properly input on Moody's Analyst and Qualitative inputs are completed.
  • Perform site visits for large and potentially risky SME deals
  • Assist the CRO | DCEO in the implementation of the Strategic Plans and Objectives of the Department and other changes based on regulatory and market trends.
  • Monitor and submit weekly statistics and performance reports to COO.
  • Maintain harmonious working environment, motivate the team to deliver and live Bank One values.
  • Ensure proper capacity planning conducted and robust recruitment process (aptitude tests etc) such that best and proper candidates are recruited.
  • Innovate such that the internal processes and quality of service provided by the department are improved
  • Maintain mutually beneficial relationships with Front Office, Credit Risk and other Support Teams
  • Ensure that turnaround time of credit proposals are within the Service Level Agreement agreed with respective Line of Business
  • Plan the Team's tasks such that proposals tagged as urgent by Front Office is prioritize and equitable service is provided to each Line of Business
  • Work out mutually agreed recommendations with Front Office as far as possible. Conduct meetings to discuss issues, roadblocks or divergence in credit opinions to come up with best possible solution in the best interest of the Bank and without jeopardizing the role of being an independent party

Technical & Behavioural Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Central Bank’s guidelines and other relevant local and international legislations.
  • Sound Knowledge and understanding of banking products and lending processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and Risk Management techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of Corporate Finance, Structured Trade Finance, Project Finance, Syndication, Cross Border deals.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, specially in Africa.
  • Highly numerate
  • Good interpersonal and communication (oral/written) both in French and English medium
  • Strong Management and Leadership Skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Computer literal with good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (oral/written) both in French and English medium.
  • Have good time management skills.
  • Excellent team spirit.
  • Proactive, dynamic and solution provider.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACCA qualified or a Degree in Banking/Finance/Economics/Accounting or an alternate qualification acceptable to the Bank.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in Credit Origination/Credit Risk or Senior Position in a bank / financial institution
