Qualifications & Experience:

  • LLB undergraduate degree holder.
  • At least five years’ legal experience in financial services ideally in a handling legal cases , contract negotiation and drafting with skills in leading a legal team, preferably in the Banking Sector

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for the overall monitoring of legal cases on behalf of and against the organization and see to it that the bank is compliant with the legal requirements and framework of the banking system. Ability to provide independent advice both written and oral to senior level management on highly technical legal matters with a view of safeguarding the Bank's interest.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures and ensure the effective and efficient management of legal and contractual risks.
  • Follow up legal cases closely and represent the Bank by attending court proceedings and other matters relating to police matters and other actions.
  • Review ongoing cases and progress of outstanding litigation cases and advise management accordingly for corrective actions.
  • Prepare brief and instruct external legal advisers on cases where required.
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and documentation in general and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
  • Issue guidelines and advise service units with regards to perfection and implication of legal and security documentation and other correspondences.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent relationship management and analytical skills necessary for interaction with the Judicial system and other negotiating parties
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with government and/or commercial contract administration, particularly contract negotiation, preparation and administration.
  • Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation matters.
  • Good planning and organization skills and proven ability to delicately solve sensitive matters
